Erkan Kaya, MD

Erkan Kaya, MD is an Intensive Care physician working within the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul. His clinical work centers on intensive care treatment, palliative care, advanced life support and pain management. He has been in medicine for more than four decades.

Dr. Kaya studied medicine at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 1993, and completed his specialty training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. Between 1994 and 1997 he worked at a Ministry of Health Health Center, and from 1997 to 2002 he was on the staff of the Ege University Faculty of Medicine / Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2005. He is a member of the Intensive Care Association, the Turkish Association of Anesthesiology and Reanimation and the Turkish Medical Association. His academic work includes case reports and clinical studies presented at national and international anesthesiology and intensive care congresses, on topics such as acute hemolytic reaction following ABO-incompatible transfusion, Aicardi syndrome, foreign body aspiration after a traffic accident, Moya Moya disease and anesthesia, and the postoperative effects of tramadol and Zofran in laminectomy patients.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kaya’s practice is directed toward the care of critically ill patients. Intensive care treatment involves continuous monitoring and organ-supportive therapy for patients whose condition requires close observation and rapid adjustment of treatment. Advanced life support covers the structured management of cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including airway management, ventilation and circulatory support. His background in anesthesiology and reanimation underpins this work.

Alongside acute care, Dr. Kaya’s areas of expertise include palliative care, which focuses on relieving symptoms and maintaining comfort for patients with serious or advanced illness, and pain management. How Dr. Kaya works with international patients

Dr. Kaya consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling, subject to the limits of remote assessment.
