Asst. Prof. Dr. Ezgi Yakupoğlu

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ezgi Yakupoğlu is a neurologist in the Neurology unit of Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. Her subspecialty areas are stroke and preventive treatments, and dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and aging. She has more than 12 years of experience in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Cerebrovascular Diseases Association and the Turkish Neurology Association.

Dr. Yakupoğlu graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2014 and worked as a general practitioner at Osmaniye Community Health Center in the same year. She completed her neurology training at Health Sciences University Erenköy Training and Research Hospital for Mental and Neurological Diseases in 2020. She then worked as a specialist physician at Ünye State Hospital from 2021 to 2022 and as an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine from 2022 to 2023, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. Her published work includes articles on the general principles in the management of cerebrovascular diseases and emergency approach, hemorrhagic transformation risk in acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease, direct aspiration in acute stroke patients and the validity and reliability of online cognitive tracking software, as well as case reports on Neuro-Behcet disease presenting with epileptic aphasia, spontaneous caroticocavernous fistula and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura presenting with headache and agitation.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yakupoğlu’s clinical work covers stroke and preventive treatment, including the neurological assessment of patients after a cerebrovascular event and the planning of preventive care. She also sees patients with cognitive and movement-related conditions, including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease and neurological changes related to aging.

Her areas of expertise further include epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis and other muscle and nerve disorders, peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain. Clinical neurophysiology is also among her areas of expertise. The approach for each patient depends on the diagnosis, the findings of the clinical examination and any previous investigations and treatments, and is discussed with the patient during the consultation.

How Dr. Yakupoğlu works with international patients

Dr. Yakupoğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used, where clinically appropriate, for an initial review of a case or for follow-up after treatment.
