Prof. Fuat Demirci, MD

Prof. Fuat Demirci, MD is a specialist in Gynecology & Obstetrics who sees patients at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital, Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Demirci graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1983 and completed his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Zeynep Kamil Women’s and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 1990. He trained at the Urogynecology Clinic of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, USA (1995) and at the Urogynecology and Oncology Clinic of Rostock University in Schwerin, Germany (2000). From 1997 to 2008 he held academic posts at Abant İzzet Baysal University, Düzce Faculty of Medicine, progressing from Assistant Associate Professor to Associate Professor and Professor Doctor, and he worked in the Division of Gynecological Oncology at İstanbul University, Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and again in 2005–2006. He obtained a Medical Specialization Board qualification in Gynecological Oncology Surgery in 2011, a certificate in assisted reproductive techniques (IVF) from Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2009, Robotic Surgery Certification at IRCAD, Starsbourg, France in 2011, and mesh training at Delorme`s Clinic in Chalon Sur Saona, France in 2012. He is President, Founding Secretary General and a board member of the Turkish Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery Association (1997– ) and a member of the International Continence Society (ICS), the International Urogynecological Association(IUGA), the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO) and the Society of European Robotic Gynecologic Surgery (SERGS), among others. His published work includes studies on perioperative complications of abdominal sacrocolpopexy, sacrospinous ligament fixation and Burch colposuspension, the midurethral polypropylene sling for stress incontinence, and hormone therapy in women with surgical menopause.

Clinical focus

Dr. Demirci’s practice covers gynecologic oncologic surgery, including the surgical management of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer, as well as endometriosis treatment. In urogynecology, he evaluates and treats pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence and other bladder health concerns, an area reflected in his publications on incontinence and prolapse surgery. He also sees women for menopause-related care, the treatment of sexual dysfunction, and fertility-related questions such as egg freezing and low ovarian reserve (AMH). Each treatment plan is based on the individual patient’s diagnosis, clinical findings and preferences.

How Dr. Demirci works with international patients

Dr. Demirci consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
