Prof. Fuat Demirel, MD

Prof. Fuat Demirel, MD is a urologist at the Acibadem Bodrum Outpatient Clinic (Muğla), where he works in the Urology unit. His subspecialty interests are the treatment of sexual dysfunction and the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases. He has more than 45 years in medicine and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024.

Dr. Demirel graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1981. His early posts were at Mardin Merkez No. 3 Health Center (1981–1983) and Mersin Merkez No. 3 Health Center (1984–1985). He completed his urology training at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and then worked as a lecturer in the Department of Urology there. From 1992 he served as a training officer at the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt Dışkapı Training and Research Hospital Urology Clinic, and between 1992 and 1996 he also completed a medical oncology specialization at Hacettepe University Oncology Institute. He received his associate professorship in urology in 2008. In 2016 he worked in the Department of Urology at the Health Sciences Institute Ministry of Health Gaziosmanpaşa Taksim Training and Research Hospital, followed by a position at Medical Park Gebze Hospital from 2016 to 2022. Between 2018 and 2020 he was a professor in the Department of Urology at İstinye University Faculty of Medicine. From 2022 to 2024 he practiced at Lokman Hekim Hospital İstanbul. His professional memberships include the Turkish Urology Association, the European Urology Association, the Endoüroloji Association, the Androloji Association, the Kontinans Association, the Uluslararası Kontinans Association, the Üroonkoloji Association, the Minimally Invasive Urology Association, the Urology Surgery Association, the Ankara Ürologlar Association and the Turkish Pediatric Urology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Demirel’s clinical work covers the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, sexual dysfunction treatment, sexually transmitted diseases and penile curvature. He also assesses and manages bladder health and urinary incontinence, as well as testicular cancer.

In the area of stone disease, he treats kidney stones and performs minimally invasive stone surgery. His endoscopic work includes cystoscopy, which may be used to examine the bladder and urethra when clinically indicated. The choice of any diagnostic or treatment approach depends on the individual patient’s findings and is discussed with the patient before a decision is made.

How Dr. Demirel works with international patients

Dr. Demirel consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the visit to the clinic. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be used for an initial review of a case or for follow-up when an in-person examination is not required.
