Prof. Dr. Gündüz Tezeren

Prof. Dr. Gündüz Tezeren is an orthopedic surgery and traumatology specialist who sees patients at the Acibadem Bağdat Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul, within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His subspecialty areas are hip and knee replacement surgery and foot and ankle surgery. He has more than 42 years in medicine and holds the academic title of professor.

Dr. Tezeren graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed his specialty training in orthopedics and traumatology at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1990. He then worked as a specialist in the 1st Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic of the same hospital from 1990 to 1995, followed by a position in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Bayındır Group Hospitals in Ankara from 1995 to 2002. From 2002 to 2019 he served as a professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in Sivas. He subsequently held professorial positions at IEÜ Medical Park Hospital in İzmir (2019–2020) and at Başkent University Hospital in Altunizade, İstanbul (2021–2022), before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tezeren’s clinical work centers on joint diseases and joint replacement. He evaluates and treats osteoarthritis and other joint conditions, and performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery when conservative measures are no longer sufficient. He also manages sports-related and degenerative injuries of the knee, including meniscal tears and cruciate ligament tears, as well as muscle tears.

A second area of his practice is foot and ankle surgery, including the assessment and treatment of flatfoot (pes planus). His expertise further extends to bone tumors and orthopedic oncology surgery, and to spinal disorders. He has co-authored publications in Turkish medical journals on topics such as the surgical treatment of proximal humerus fractures and tibial pylon fractures, posterior instrumentation in idiopathic scoliosis, transmalleolar mosaicplasty for talus dome osteochondral lesions, and MRI assessment of developmental dysplasia of the hip after reduction. Treatment recommendations depend on the individual patient’s findings, and not every patient will be a candidate for surgery.

How Dr. Tezeren works with international patients

Dr. Tezeren consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are unable to travel initially, a video consultation for international patients is available, which can be used to review existing records and discuss possible next steps before any decision about in-person assessment is made.
