Prof. Gürhan Şişman, MD

Prof. Gürhan Şişman, MD is a gastroenterology specialist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Gastroenterology unit with a subspecialty focus on the treatment of pancreas, liver and biliary tract diseases. He also worked at Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2010. He subsequently served as a gastroenterology specialist at Van Regional Training and Research Hospital (2012–2013) and İstanbul Training and Research Hospital (2013–2014). Since 2012 he has been a member of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), the Turkish Liver Research Association and the Turkish Gastroenterology Association. His published work, appearing in journals such as Digestive Endoscopy, Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, Clinical Endoscopy and the Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology, addresses topics including endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration of pancreatic masses and subepithelial lesions, endoscopic drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts, endoscopic treatment of gastric carcinoid and heterotopic pancreas, chronic pancreatitis related to familial chylomicronemia syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Şişman’s practice is the assessment and management of liver diseases, including fatty liver disease, together with pancreatic diseases and biliary tract diseases. He performs endoscopy and ERCP, an endoscopic technique used to evaluate and treat conditions of the bile ducts and pancreatic duct.

He also sees patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, namely Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as Barrett’s esophagus and stomach cancer.
