Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Çakır

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Çakır is a urologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. His practice covers general urology, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, and the treatment of sexual dysfunction. He has more than 32 years in medicine. Dr. Çakır studied at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine from 1994 to 2000 and completed his urology training at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital in 2006. In the same year he obtained the Turkish Urology Proficiency Boards Certificate and attended EUREP, European Urology Residents Education Program, in Prague, Czech Republic.

His professional experience includes a period as Deputy Chief Physician at Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yaşar Eryılmaz State Hospital (2006–2007), followed by the Konya Military Hospital Urology Clinic (2008–2009) and İstanbul Cerrahi Hospital (2009–2010). He has worked within Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2010. His continuing training includes the MMS-The Netherlands Urodynamic Clinical Training Certificate (2009), the UroLift Inview (Prostate Lift Treatment) Certification Program at Hospital Universitario del Henares in Madrid, Spain (2012), a laparoscopy course in İstanbul (2017), Prostat Rezum Procedure Health Care Practitioner Training with Boston Scientific (2021), an enucleation workshop on a 3D prostate model with laser in İstanbul (2023), and courses in Paris, France, in 2024 on flexible ureterorenoscopy and retrograde intrarenal surgery and on the urological aspects of the infertile couple. He also holds a Basic Artificial Intelligence Applications Certificate from T.C. İstanbul University (2024). He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Urology Association, the Türk Androloji Association, the European Urology Association and the Urological Surgery Association, and serves as Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Applications in Medicine. His published work includes multicenter studies on retrograde intrarenal surgery with the RIRSearch study group and evaluations of ChatGPT responses to questions on urolithiasis, urinary tract infections, female urology and urological cancers.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çakır’s clinical work centers on prostate disease diagnosis and treatment, including benign prostatic hyperplasia. His training in this area includes the UroLift prostate lift procedure, the Rezūm procedure and laser enucleation. He also treats sexual dysfunction and sexually transmitted diseases, and assesses pelvic pain and functional disorders, supported by his urodynamic clinical training.

Other areas of his practice include testicular cancer and kidney stones. For stone disease, his course training and research cover flexible ureterorenoscopy and retrograde intrarenal surgery. The suitability of any given approach depends on the individual patient’s findings and is determined after a clinical assessment.

How Dr. Çakır works with international patients

Dr. Çakır consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
