Hanife Durak, Physiotherapist

Hanife Durak practices in the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation unit at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. She has more than 34 years of experience in medicine and sees both local and international patients.

She graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1992. Between 2000 and 2002 she completed an internship at İnnsbruck University covering orthopedics, neurology, intensive care, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, and in 2004 she undertook an internship at Fach Klinik für Nörologie Hennef Allner. Her professional path began at Vakıf Gureba Hospital (1992–1996), followed by Ornöram Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center (1996–2000), Florance Nightingale Hospital (2002–2005), Anadolu Health Center (2006–2007), Fullcare Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center (2007–2010), and Fizyogem Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center (2010). She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2012.

Clinical focus

Hanife Durak’s clinical work centers on conditions of the spine and musculoskeletal system. She treats patients with lumbar disc herniation and cervical disc herniation, reduced lumbar lordosis and reduced cervical lordosis, and facet joint syndrome. Frozen shoulder syndrome is also part of her practice. Manual therapy is among the approaches she uses within a rehabilitation plan, with the aim of addressing pain, mobility, and day-to-day function.

A further part of her practice is pain management, including care for patients with fibromyalgia. She also works with patients who have movement disorders and neuromuscular disorders, where rehabilitation is planned according to the individual’s condition and functional needs. Which measures are appropriate is decided after a clinical assessment, and the course of treatment is adjusted as the patient’s response is observed.

How Hanife Durak works with international patients

Hanife Durak speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination focused on pain, mobility, and function, and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling or to follow up after treatment.
