Hikmet Toy, MD is an otorhinolaryngology specialist who sees patients in the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit at Acibadem Göktürk Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. Dr. Toy graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed his specialty training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2004. His professional experience includes Bahat Health Group from 2012 to 2014 and Şafak Health Group from 2014 to 2021. He has worked at Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2021.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Toy’s work concerns the nose and sinuses. He assesses and manages sinusitis, uses nasal endoscopy as part of the diagnostic evaluation of nasal and sinus symptoms, and performs sinus surgery, including endoscopic sinus surgery, where this is considered appropriate after examination and review of imaging. Whether surgery is suitable depends on the individual findings, the response to previous treatment and the patient’s overall health, and these points are discussed with the patient before any decision is made.

Dr. Toy also treats throat, voice and hearing concerns. His areas of expertise include tonsil surgery and adenoid surgery, which are frequently relevant in children, as well as the evaluation of hoarseness and of dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing. He assesses hearing loss in adults and paediatric hearing loss in children. In each case the aim is to establish the likely cause of the symptoms and to outline the diagnostic and treatment options that are appropriate for that patient, recognising that not every condition requires surgery and that management is tailored to individual needs.

How Dr. Toy works with international patients

Dr. Toy consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as CT or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, hearing test results where available, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, which may include nasal endoscopy when indicated, and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Toy before travelling, although a physical examination in the clinic may still be needed before any treatment plan is finalised.
