Prof. İbrahim Yıldız, MD

Prof. İbrahim Yıldız, MD is a medical oncologist in the Medical Oncology Department at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, with more than 23 years in medicine. He graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and completed his Internal Medicine training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2006. He then completed his Medical Oncology training at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2013.

His professional path began with compulsory service at Kağıthane Devlet Hospital from 2007 to 2009, followed by military service at Harp Akademileri Command from 2009 to 2010. From 2013 to 2015 he worked in the Medical Oncology Clinic of İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, and he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2015. Dr. Yıldız is a member of the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Turkish Medical Oncology Association, and he serves as a board member of the Lung Cancers Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications, several of them Izmir Oncology Group (IZOG) studies, on topics including prognostic factors in testicular germ cell tumors, mesothelin expression in triple negative and HER2-positive breast cancers, adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II colon cancer, first-line chemotherapy in advanced esophageal cancer, and quality of life among colorectal cancer patients.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yıldız’s practice centers on the evaluation and medical treatment planning of common solid tumors. His areas of expertise include breast cancer, lung cancer and other thoracic cancers, and ovarian cancer. He also sees patients with prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

In the field of gastrointestinal oncology, his work covers liver cancer and stomach cancer. As a medical oncologist, his role is to assess each patient’s diagnosis and stage, review the findings with the treating team, and plan systemic (drug-based) treatment where it is appropriate. The suitability of any treatment depends on the individual case and is determined after clinical evaluation.

How Dr. Yıldız works with international patients

Dr. Yıldız consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation can be arranged so that existing reports can be discussed before any decision about a visit is made.
