İlyas Kavak, MD

İlyas Kavak, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Kavak graduated from Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine in 2012 and completed his specialty training in cardiology at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2023. Clinical focus

Dr. Kavak’s clinical focus covers the conditions commonly seen in general cardiology. He evaluates and manages hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, two risk factors that can contribute to atherosclerosis over time. Patients with coronary artery disease, ischaemic heart disease and angina, as well as those who have previously had a heart attack, are assessed with attention to their current symptoms, overall cardiovascular risk and any previous treatments. Follow-up and medication review are planned according to the individual clinical picture.

He also sees patients with heart failure, heart valve disease and rheumatic heart disease, and those with atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. Because many of these conditions overlap, a consultation often involves considering several aspects of heart health together, such as blood pressure control, lipid levels, heart rhythm and pump function. Treatment options are discussed with the patient after a review of the history, examination findings and available test results, and the reasoning behind each recommendation is explained so that patients can take part in decisions about their care.

How Dr. Kavak works with international patients

Dr. Kavak works with international patients in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before travel, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example CT or ultrasound reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For patients who cannot travel immediately, or who would like to discuss their situation before deciding on a visit, video consultation is available for international patients. This does not replace an in-person examination, but it can help clarify which reports or tests may be useful and what a hospital visit would involve.
