Prof. Dr. İnan Anaforoğlu

Prof. Dr. İnan Anaforoğlu is a specialist in endocrinology at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Endocrinology & Metabolism unit. His subspecialty areas are the treatment of pituitary diseases and the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases. With more than 28 years in medicine, his work centers on the evaluation and long-term management of hormonal and metabolic conditions.

Dr. Anaforoğlu graduated from Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. He then completed his training in Internal Medicine at Başkent University Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and went on to complete his training in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the same institution in 2007. He has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2020.

Clinical focus

Diabetes forms a substantial part of Dr. Anaforoğlu’s practice. He evaluates and manages patients with Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, as well as prediabetes, in which blood glucose levels are raised but do not yet meet the criteria for diabetes. He also sees women with gestational diabetes, a form of diabetes first recognized during pregnancy. Patients with morbid obesity are assessed from an endocrine and metabolic standpoint as part of obesity treatment. Many of these conditions call for ongoing monitoring, and care discussions can address how follow-up is organized over time.

Thyroid and pituitary conditions are his stated subspecialty areas. He treats thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, and he manages pituitary diseases, including diabetes insipidus, a condition that affects the body’s regulation of water balance and is distinct from diabetes mellitus despite the similar name. In each case, the approach depends on the individual diagnosis, existing test results and the patient’s overall health, and the options are reviewed with the patient before any treatment plan is agreed.

How Dr. Anaforoğlu works with international patients

Dr. Anaforoğlu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports, laboratory results and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging, test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Because many endocrine and metabolic conditions require follow-up rather than a single intervention, the consultation may also address how monitoring can be continued after the patient returns home.
