Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Sargın

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Sargın is a gynecology and obstetrics specialist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul. His clinical work centers on menopause care, endometriosis treatment and pelvic pain treatment. He has more than 23 years in medicine and consults in Turkish and English.

Dr. Sargın graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and completed his specialization in obstetrics and gynecology at Bakırköy Maternity and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 2008. He carried out reserve officer service at Adana Military Hospital (2009–2010) and compulsory state service at Zeynep Kamil Women’s and Children’s Diseases Training and Research Hospital in İstanbul (2010–2011). He then worked as a specialist at Derince Training and Research Hospital in Kocaeli (2011–2013), as chief assistant at SBU Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital (2013–2017) and as associate professor at SBU Sancaktepe Martyr Prof. Dr. İlhan Varank Training and Research Hospital (2017–2019). In 2019 he practiced as an associate professor at VM Medical Park Maltepe Hospital and Private Mehmet Toprak Hospital in İstanbul. His academic appointments include faculty member positions at T.C. Beykoz University (2019–2021) and T.C.Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine, first as Doç. Dr. (2022–2023) and then as Prof. Dr. (2023–2025). He is a member of the TURKISH SOCIETY OF GYNECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS İSTANBUL ANATOLIAN BRANCH, the GYNECOLOGICAL ENDOSCOPY SOCIETY, the TURKISH MEDICAL ASSOCIATION and the PELVIC FLOOR AND COSMETIC GYNECOLOGY SOCIETY. His published work includes a validation study of the Vulvovaginal Symptom Questionnaire in Turkish women with genitourinary syndrome of menopause, as well as papers on ectopic pregnancy management, ovarian mass assessment and cesarean section analgesia.

Clinical focus

Dr. Sargın’s practice concentrates on three related areas of women’s health. In menopause care, he evaluates symptoms associated with the menopausal transition and postmenopausal period and discusses possible management approaches with each patient. In endometriosis treatment, he assesses patients with suspected or confirmed endometriosis and reviews the treatment options that may be appropriate to their symptoms, findings and priorities. In pelvic pain treatment, he works to clarify possible gynecological causes of persistent pelvic pain and to plan further evaluation and care accordingly.

Because symptoms in these areas often overlap and may have more than one cause, the appropriate approach depends on the individual assessment. Any treatment plan is discussed with the patient after examination and review of the available information.

How Dr. Sargın works with international patients

Dr. Sargın consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling, although a clinical examination and any necessary tests are carried out in person.
