Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cihat Ünlü

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cihat Ünlü is a gynecology and obstetrics specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in Istanbul. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1979 and completed his specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. Between 1985 and 1986 he trained at the Hannover Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology on a Federal Republic of Germany Government DAAD Scholarship, with a focus on perinatology, ultrasonography and laparoscopic surgery. In 1988 he undertook further training in in vitro fertilization at the Infertility Clinic of the Hannover University Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

From 1981 to 2005 Dr. Ünlü worked in the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where he became Associate Professor in 1990 and Professor in 1996. During this period he served as Director of the Dörtyol Vocational School of Health Services (1992–1996), worked at the Ankara University Infertility and Treatment Practice and Research Center (1996–2001), was Director of the Infertility Diagnosis and Treatment Center (2001–2004) and Director of the In Vitro Fertilization Unit (2004–2005). In 2005 he became a faculty member of Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine. His memberships include the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society Of Reproductive Medicine, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) and the Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Association; he is President of Türkiye for the European Society for Infectious Disease in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ESIDOG). He is the author of Endometriosis Etiology and Clinical Management (Akademisyen Tıp Kitabevi, 2015) and translation editor of the Turkish edition of the Atlas of Gynecologic Surgery (2016).

Clinical focus

Dr. Ünlü’s subspecialty areas are menopause and the treatment of endometriosis. His clinical work covers endometriosis treatment, menopause care, pelvic pain and dysfunction, and ectopic pregnancy. He also manages sexually transmitted infections, HPV and genital warts, reflecting his involvement in infectious disease in obstetrics and gynecology.

His surgical and procedural work includes hysterectomy and the care of bladder health and urinary incontinence. His published work includes chapters and articles on the laparoscopic approach in early stage endometriosis, laparoscopic management of adnexal masses, and menopause. Which approach is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s findings and is discussed after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Ünlü works with international patients

Dr. Ünlü consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
