Prof. Dr. Metehan Özen

Prof. Dr. Metehan Özen is a Pediatric Infectious Diseases specialist who sees children and adolescents at Acibadem Maslak Hospital and Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. His clinical work centers on respiratory infections, viral illnesses, skin infections and recurrent fever syndromes in childhood. He has more than 31 years in medicine and has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2015.

Dr. Özen graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1995. He completed his pediatric training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, where he worked as a Research Assistant from 1996 to 2000. He then served as a Lecturer at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine (2001–2002) before undertaking subspecialty training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine as a Subspecialty Research Fellow (2002–2004). He returned to İnönü University Faculty of Medicine as Assistant Associate Professor (2004–2006) and Associate Professor (2006–2007), and subsequently worked at Antalya Andeva Hospital (2007–2009). He was appointed Associate Professor at Süleyman Demirel University in 2009 and Professor in 2012. He is a member of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Association, Türk Pediatri Kurumu, Milli Pediatri Association, Puader Association, Infectious Diseases Association and the Turkish Microbiology Society. His publications include peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on probiotics and the intestinal microbiota in children, pediatric hospital infections and pediatric infectious diseases.

Clinical focus

Dr. Özen evaluates and manages lower respiratory tract infections in children, including bronchiolitis, bronchitis and pneumonia. Viral infections that commonly affect infants and young children, such as RSV infection and rotavirus infection, are also part of his practice. Assessment focuses on the child’s symptoms, the course of the illness and the appropriate level of care.

He also sees children with skin and mucosal infections, including impetigo and oral thrush, and with childhood rash illnesses such as chickenpox and measles. Children with recurrent fever episodes are evaluated for conditions such as PFAPA syndrome, where a careful history of fever pattern and accompanying findings guides the diagnostic approach.

How Dr. Özen works with international patients

Dr. Özen consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as X-ray, CT or ultrasound reports, laboratory results and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s condition before or instead of traveling.
