Prof. Dr. Metin Keskin

Prof. Dr. Metin Keskin is a general surgeon at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the General Surgery unit with a subspecialty in Digestive System Diseases and Surgery. His clinical work covers gastroenterological, colorectal and oncological surgery, as well as endoscopy and the surgical management of pancreatic, liver and biliary tract diseases. He has more than 24 years in medicine and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Dr. Keskin graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2002 and completed his General Surgery training at the same faculty in 2008, having worked there as a research assistant from 2002 to 2008. He then served as a specialist at Yalova State Hospital during his compulsory state service (2009–2010) and again in 2011, and at Jandarma Anıttepe Dispensary during his military service as a reserve officer (2010–2011). From 2012 to 2017 he was a specialist and chief assistant in the Department of General Surgery at İstanbul University, İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, and from 2014 to 2015 he was a research fellow in the Department of Colorectal Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2017 and Professor in 2023 in the same department, where he continues to hold the position of Professor. He is a member of the Turkish Surgical Association, the Turkish Colon and Rectal Surgery Association and the National Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Keskin’s practice centers on digestive system surgery. Within colorectal surgery, he evaluates and operates on conditions of the colon and rectum, and his published work includes studies on treatment methods for fecal incontinence, desmoid tumors, anorectal melanoma, spleen autotransplantation in colorectal surgery and colorectal surgery during the COVID-19 period. His oncological surgery work includes pancreatic cancer, and he has co-authored a single-center series on radical surgery in early-stage gastric cancer.

He also assesses and treats liver diseases, including fatty liver disease and liver failure, together with biliary tract and pancreatic diseases. Endoscopy forms part of his diagnostic and therapeutic work in the digestive tract. As with any surgical condition, whether a particular procedure is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, disease stage and general health, and is decided only after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Keskin works with international patients

Dr. Keskin consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Keskin before traveling or when travel is not immediately possible.
