Prof. Dr. Murat Sezer

Prof. Dr. Murat Sezer is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, with more than 32 years in medicine. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and completed his cardiology training at the same faculty in 2001. He then remained at the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Cardiology, working as a cardiologist from 2001 to 2006, as an Associate Professor Doctor from 2006 to 2012 and as a Professor Doctor in Interventional Cardiology from 2012 to 2014. In 2013–2014 he spent a period as a visiting professor at Imperial College and Hammersmith Hospital’s Circulatory Research Center.

From 2014 to 2015 Dr. Sezer was Professor Doctor in the Department of Cardiology at Koç University Faculty of Medicine, and in 2015 he held a Professor Doktor position at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2020, and since 2023 he has also been an Honorary Consultant at Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospital, King’s College, London. His professional memberships include the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the Turkish Cardiology Association, the Interventional Cardiology Association and Avrupa Perkütan Koroner Girişim Cemiyeti. He is a Member of the Board of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) National Societies & International Affairs Committee.

Clinical focus

Dr. Sezer’s clinical work centers on coronary and interventional cardiology. He assesses and treats patients with coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis and angina, as well as coronary disease related to a heart attack. Diagnostic angiography is part of his practice; depending on the clinical picture, coronary CT angiography may be considered as a non-invasive way of evaluating the coronary arteries.

His practice also covers heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) and pacemaker care, blood pressure conditions including hypertension and hypotension, and the evaluation of heart murmurs. The choice of tests and treatment depends on each patient’s history, symptoms and existing findings, and is discussed with the patient after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Sezer works with international patients

Dr. Sezer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
