Prof. Dr. Murat Toprak

Prof. Dr. Murat Toprak is an otorhinolaryngology specialist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) unit with a subspecialty in head and neck surgery. He has more than 42 years of experience in medicine, and his practice covers disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck in both adults and children, including hearing, balance and voice concerns.

Dr. Toprak graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed his specialty training in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at the same faculty in 1991. He was appointed associate professor at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and professor in 1999. His early career included posts at Vakıflar Village Health Center (1984–1986) and Silivri Devlet Hospital (1987), followed by a period at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, USA (1991) and at Bursa Asker Hospital (1992). He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2004. He has served as President of the Turkish Ear Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and as President of the 35th National Congress of the Turkish Ear Nose and Throat and Head and Neck Surgery Association, both in 2013, and as President of the İstanbul ENT, Head and Neck Surgery Specialists Association in 2012. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the European Academy of Otology and Neuro-Otology, serves as editor of Türk Otolarengoloji Arşivi, and sits on the editorial boards of Türkiye Klinikleri ENT Journal and KBB İhtisas Dergisi. His published work includes chapters and articles on acute tonsillitis, allergic rhinitis, medical treatment of rhinosinusitis, soft palate radiofrequency and laser surgery for snoring, and thyroid and parathyroid embryology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Toprak’s surgical practice includes head and neck surgery, middle ear surgery and nasal surgery. He performs septoplasty for a deviated nasal septum and septorhinoplasty when functional and structural correction of the nose are addressed together. Nasal endoscopy is used in the assessment of nasal and sinus complaints, and he carries out sinus surgery where medical treatment has not been sufficient. Adenoid conditions and snoring are also part of his practice.

Beyond surgery, he evaluates and manages vertigo and balance disorders, hearing loss in children and voice hoarseness. Each patient is assessed on the basis of symptoms, examination findings and any existing investigations, and the treatment plan, whether medical or surgical, is discussed with the patient before any decision is made.

How Dr. Toprak works with international patients

Dr. Toprak consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before travelling or to follow up after treatment.
