Clinical focus
Dr. Şimşek evaluates and manages patients with coronary artery disease, including atherosclerosis, angina and myocardial infarction. His interventional practice includes coronary angiography to visualize the coronary arteries and percutaneous coronary intervention to treat narrowed or blocked vessels, including procedures for chronic total occlusion, in which a coronary artery is completely blocked.
He also sees patients with arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, and with structural heart conditions such as aortic valve stenosis and atrial septal defect. For selected patients with aortic valve stenosis, he performs transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), a catheter-based valve procedure. Whether a catheter-based approach is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s anatomy, overall health and the findings of the diagnostic work-up, which are reviewed and discussed with the patient before any decision is made.
