Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Çorum, MD

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Çorum, MD is a specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation who sees patients at Acibadem Kartal Hospital and Acibadem Taksim Hospital in İstanbul. Dr. Çorum graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2011 and completed his specialty training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2016, having worked there as a research assistant in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from 2012 to 2016. He then served as a specialist physician at Kahta State Hospital (2016–2019) and at İstanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital (2019–2021), where he was Chief Assistant from 2021 to 2022. He received the title of Associate Professor in 2022 and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in the same year. He is a member of the Turkish Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Association and the Manual Medicine Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çorum’s clinical work covers a broad range of rehabilitation needs. He works with robotic rehabilitation, spine health and manual therapy, and treats chronic muscle pain and fibromyalgia. His neurological rehabilitation practice includes movement disorder treatment and Parkinson’s rehabilitation, and he also provides respiratory therapy and rehabilitation as well as lymphedema treatment. In children, his focus is on pediatric rehabilitation, including the management of spasticity.

His published research reflects these interests. He has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed studies on robot-assisted training for patients with upper limb amputations who use myoelectric prostheses, on complex decongestive therapy for breast cancer-related lymphedema, on spinal manipulation, myofascial release and exercise in tension-type headache with neck pain, on whole body vibration training in patellofemoral pain, and on cervical dysfunction in temporomandibular disorders. Other topics include shoulder subluxation and sarcopenia after stroke, extracorporeal shock wave therapy in lateral epicondylitis, sleep quality after spinal cord injury and imaging findings in newly diagnosed axial spondyloarthritis. This work has appeared in journals such as the International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, Lymphatic Research and Biology, Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, Muscle & nerve and the Turkish Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

How Dr. Çorum works with international patients

Dr. Çorum consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options; for rehabilitation patients this usually includes a conversation about functional needs, symptoms and rehabilitation goals.
