Mustafa Tolga Ünsür, MD

Mustafa Tolga Ünsür, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Pediatrics unit and provides care for children and adolescents. Clinical focus

Much of Dr. Ünsür’s work involves well-child follow-up: periodic examinations in which a child’s growth, development, nutrition and general health are reviewed and age-appropriate childhood vaccinations are planned and given. He monitors pediatric nutrition and evaluates growth disorders in children, following measurements over time and considering further assessment when a child’s growth pattern raises concern. Preventive visits also give parents an opportunity to discuss everyday questions about child and adolescent health.

Dr. Ünsür also diagnoses and treats pediatric infectious diseases. These include upper respiratory tract infections in children, croup, and childhood rash illnesses, in which the pattern of the rash, any accompanying fever and the child’s overall condition guide the diagnosis. He sees children with PFAPA syndrome, a condition characterized by recurring episodes of fever, and assesses the frequency and features of the episodes to help distinguish it from other causes of recurrent fever. In addition, he evaluates common digestive and urinary symptoms such as constipation in children and hematuria in children, taking a history, examining the child and arranging laboratory or imaging tests where these are needed to clarify the cause.

How Dr. Ünsür works with international patients

Dr. Ünsür consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory results, ultrasound or X-ray reports and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including any further tests or follow-up that may be appropriate.
