Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Zungur, MD

Assoc. Prof. Mustafa Zungur, MD is a cardiologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir), where he works in the Cardiology Department. He has more than 30 years in medicine. His clinical practice covers heart rhythm disorders and pacemakers, heart valve disease, heart failure, hypertension, coronary artery disease and angiography, and he sees adult patients with a range of acute and long-term heart conditions.

Dr. Zungur graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. From 1997 to 2002 he was a research assistant at İstanbul University Cardiology Institute, Haseki, and he completed his cardiology training at İstanbul University Cardiology Institute in 2002. He then worked in the invasive laboratory of Özel Çağ Hospital (2002–2004) and at Van Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital (2004–2005). In 2008 he attended the Cleaveland Clinic Interventional Radiology Course. Between 2008 and 2015 he practiced as a cardiology specialist in İzmir, first at İzmir Basmane Şifa Hospital (2008–2010) and then at İzmir Bornova Şifa Hospital (2010–2015). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Zungur’s work concerns coronary artery disease and its underlying process, atherosclerosis. He evaluates patients with angina and those who have had a myocardial infarction, and he performs angiography to assess the coronary arteries. The choice of investigation and treatment depends on the individual patient’s symptoms, risk factors and existing findings.

He also cares for patients with heart valve disease, including aortic valve stenosis, and with heart failure and hypertension. Arrhythmias and pacemakers are a further area of his practice; this includes assessing heart rhythm disorders and the follow-up of patients who have, or may need, a pacemaker. Where a patient’s condition involves several of these problems at once, as is often the case, the assessment is planned so that they can be considered together.

How Dr. Zungur works with international patients

Dr. Zungur consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as electrocardiogram, echocardiography, CT or MRI reports, laboratory results, angiography or operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their case or review their reports before deciding whether to travel; whether further tests or treatment are appropriate is decided only after this assessment.
