Prof. Ömer Fatih Ölmez, MD

Prof. Ömer Fatih Ölmez, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he sees patients in the Medical Oncology Department. He has worked in medicine for more than 25 years, and his professional background spans radiology, internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Ölmez graduated from Ondokuzmayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2001. Between 2001 and 2003 he trained in radiology at 19 Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine, working in its Radyodiagnostik Department. From 2004 to 2009 he trained in the Department of Internal Medicine at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, completing his internal medicine training in 2009, and he then continued at the same faculty in the Department of Medical Oncology from 2009 to 2012, completing his medical oncology training in 2012. He worked in the Department of Medical Oncology at Bursa Ali Osman Sönmez Oncology Hospital from 2012 to 2014, and from 2014 to 2025 he was a member of the Department of Medical Oncology at İstanbul Medipol University. He was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology in 2014 and Professor in 2019. In 2025 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services.

Clinical focus

The clinical work of Dr. Ölmez is centered on cancer. As a medical oncologist, he is involved in the assessment of patients with a cancer diagnosis and in the planning and delivery of medical cancer treatment. His earlier training in internal medicine and radiology forms part of the background he brings to this work, which typically includes reviewing the patient’s history, existing imaging and previous treatments before discussing possible options.

Each patient’s situation is assessed individually. The type of cancer, its extent and the treatments already received are considered when discussing how medical oncology care may proceed. Where questions fall outside the scope of medical oncology, patients may be referred to other departments within the hospital.

How Dr. Ölmez works with international patients

Dr. Ölmez speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who need support in other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital stay. A first consultation with Dr. Ölmez typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. For patients who are unable to travel at the outset or who wish to discuss their situation before making arrangements, video consultation is available. The scope of such a consultation depends on the information and imaging that can be shared in advance, and any recommendations remain subject to in-person evaluation where this is clinically required.
