Assoc. Prof. Selim Ergün, MD

He is a member of the Turkish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (TOTBİD), TOTBİD Spor Travmatolojisi Şubesi, ESSKA (European Sports Injuries, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy Association), the Turkish Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association and the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association. His publications include a chapter on half hitches in Knots in Orthopedic Surgery: Open and Arthroscopic Techniques (Springer-Verlag, 2018), Turkish-language book chapters on preoperative preparation for knee arthroplasty and on contact sports and shoulder instability, and articles in journals including J Am Podiatr Med Assoc, Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc and Acta Orthop Traumatol Turc.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ergün’s clinical work covers a broad range of orthopedic and trauma conditions. In joint replacement, he performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery. His upper-limb practice includes shoulder surgery and elbow surgery, and he also carries out foot and ankle surgery.

In sports traumatology, he assesses and treats knee and joint injuries, including anterior cruciate ligament tears and meniscus tears. For patients with fractures and other traumatic injuries, his practice includes minimally invasive trauma surgery. Whether a surgical or non-surgical approach is appropriate depends on the individual findings, and this is discussed with each patient after clinical assessment and review of imaging.

How Dr. Ergün works with international patients

Dr. Ergün consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
