Selim Tansal, MD

Selim Tansal, MD is a cardiovascular surgeon in the Cardiovascular Surgery unit at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla. Dr. Tansal graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and completed his Cardiovascular Surgery training at the same faculty in 1994. He then worked as a cardiovascular surgery specialist at Private Seyhan Hospital (1997–1998), Florence Nightingale Hospital (1999–2001) and İstanbul Memorial Hospital (2001 and 2003–2007). He served as Chief of the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic at Private Ortadoğu Hospital (1998–1999 and 2008–2010), Private Seyhan Hospital (2001–2003), İstanbul Cerrahi Hospital (2007–2008) and Private Medicalpark Tarsus Hospital (2011–2012), before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2012. He is a member of the Turkish Association of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Vascular Surgery Association and the Fleboloji Association.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Tansal’s work concerns diseases of the major vessels. He evaluates and treats patients with aortic aneurysm, peripheral vascular obstruction and Buerger disease, as well as venous conditions such as venous insufficiency and varicose veins. His vascular practice also extends to lymphedema treatment and the care of wounds that are related to poor circulation or that are slow to heal, where wound care is planned alongside treatment of the underlying vascular problem.

In cardiac surgery, Dr. Tansal treats heart valve diseases, including aortic valve stenosis and other valve disorders. He also has experience in pediatric cardiovascular surgery and the surgical management of congenital heart diseases. Robotic surgery and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation are further areas of his practice; whether a particular approach is suitable depends on the individual patient’s condition and is decided after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Tansal works with international patients

Dr. Tansal consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
