Dr. Serap Kapcı

Dr. Serap Kapcı is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where she practises within the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation unit. She has more than 26 years in medicine, and her work covers the assessment and non-surgical management of musculoskeletal, spinal and neurological conditions, including rehabilitation programs for patients recovering from stroke and spinal cord injury.

Dr. Kapcı completed her studies at Trakya University in 2000. She then went on to specialty training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital, which she completed in 2012. Her practice combines clinical evaluation with diagnostic and interventional techniques that are commonly used in this field, such as electrodiagnostic testing and image-guided injections.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Kapcı’s clinical work is related to spinal and joint pain. She sees patients with chronic low back pain, neck pain and cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis of the knee, and shoulder conditions such as shoulder impingement and frozen shoulder. She is also involved in fibromyalgia management and in the assessment and management of osteoporosis. In these areas, the emphasis is usually on identifying the source of symptoms, reviewing previous treatments and imaging, and planning a course of care that may include exercise-based rehabilitation, physical therapy modalities and, where appropriate, targeted interventions.

Dr. Kapcı also works in neurological rehabilitation, including post-stroke rehabilitation and spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Her diagnostic work includes electromyography and nerve conduction studies, which are used to evaluate nerve and muscle function in patients with suspected nerve compression, neuropathy or other neuromuscular problems. She performs ultrasound-guided joint injections, in which ultrasound imaging is used to help guide the placement of an injection within a joint or surrounding structure. Whether a particular test or procedure is suitable depends on the individual patient’s history, examination findings and existing results.
