Siyavuş Muhammedrezai, MD

Siyavuş Muhammedrezai, MD is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Neurosurgery unit. Dr. Muhammedrezai graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. From 1993 to 2000 he trained at Hacettepe University Nöroşirürji A.B.D., completing his Brain and Neurosurgery specialization at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. Between 1998 and 2000 he served as Chief Assistant in the Nöroşirürji Department of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, and from 2000 to 2001 he undertook Microneurosurgery Training at the same faculty. In 1998 he was an observer in the Neurosurgery Department of Hannover Norstadt Hospital and subsequently worked in that department from 1998 to 1999. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Neurosurgery Society and the Sinir Sistemi Cerrahisi Association. He has co-authored case reports in journals including Turkish Neurosurgery, South Med J, Surg Neurol and Anesth Analg, on topics such as a cervical intradural ventral arachnoid cyst resected via anterior corpectomy with reconstruction, an oculomotor nerve schwannoma in the oculomotor cistern and a primary fourth ventricular meningioma.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Muhammedrezai’s work concerns degenerative conditions of the spine. He evaluates and treats cervical disc herniation and lumbar disc herniation, as well as cervical spinal stenosis, lumbar spinal stenosis and spinal canal stenosis in general. For patients with back pain, his practice includes targeted spinal needle treatment, radiofrequency treatment for back pain and spinal ablation treatment. Whether a non-surgical procedure or an operation is considered depends on the individual findings, the symptoms and the imaging, and is discussed with each patient.

He also treats spinal tumors and spinal cord tumors, and manages tethered cord syndrome. In addition, his clinical interests include hydrocephalus, a condition involving the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain that may require neurosurgical assessment and, when indicated, treatment.

How Dr. Muhammedrezai works with international patients

Dr. Muhammedrezai consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT or X-ray reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
