Prof. Tayyar Sarioğlu, MD

Prof. Tayyar Sarioğlu, MD is a cardiovascular surgeon with more than 47 years in medicine. His work centers on congenital heart disease in children and adults, including complex congenital heart disease. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and completed his cardiovascular surgery training at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1979. In 2011 he received the Board of Specialization in Medicine in Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery.

From 1979 to 1985, Dr. Sarioğlu served at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine as Cardiovascular Surgery Chief Assistant, Specialist and Associate Professor. In 1984 he was a Cardiovascular Fellow at Klokkenberg, Holland, and from 1985 to 1986 he was a special cardiovascular fellow at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB, USA), supported by a Full Bright US Education Scholarship in 1985. At Istanbul University Institute of Cardiology he was a Cardiovascular Surgery Faculty Member from 1987 to 1997 and Head of Cardiovascular Surgery Department from 1997 to 2000. He was Founding General Director of Istanbul Memorial Hospital, with project and management leadership from 1996 to 2002, and from 2000 to 2002 he served there as Head of Cardiovascular Surgery Department and Head of Pediatric Heart Health Center. He joined Acibadem Health Group in 2007 and in 2009 became Head of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Acibadem University. He was Editor of the Journal of Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery from 1992 to 1997 and is Founder and President of Istanbul Heart Surgery Foundation, established in 1995. His memberships include the World Society of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, the European Society of Cardiology, the European Cardio – Thoracic Surgery Society, the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Turkish Society of Cardiology, the Turkish Society of Pediatric Cardiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the New York Academy of Science.
