Assoc. Prof. Tunay Erden, MD

Assoc. Prof. Tunay Erden, MD is an Orthopedic Surgery & Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. He graduated from Selçuk University Meram Faculty of Medicine in 2011 and completed his Orthopedics and Traumatology training at İstanbul Bezmialem Vakıf University in 2017. From 2012 to 2017 he worked at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, and from 2017 to 2019 he served as an Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist at Batman Regional State Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2019 and has more than 15 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Erden has pursued further surgical training abroad. This includes a Sports Surgery Fellowship at Hospital Quironsalud Barcelona (Instituto Cugat) in 2022, sports surgery training at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University in 2022, advanced surgical techniques in sports surgery at Münih Teknik University (Klinikum rechts der Isar) in 2023, advanced surgical techniques in prosthetic surgery at Helios Endo-Klinik Hamburg in 2023, and sports surgery training at SANTY Orthopedic Centre-Lyon in 2024. He holds a FIFA Medical Diploma (2022) and a Robotic Knee and Hip Surgery Certificate (MAKO 2021). Since 2022 he has served on the Turkish Football Federation Health and Performance Executive Board. His memberships include the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy ( ESSKA), the International Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), the Turkish Society of Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery (TUSYAD), the Turkish Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (ODCD), the Turkish Society of Orthopaedic and Traumatology ( TOTBID), the Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association, the Turkish Sports Injuries Association and the Turkish Medical Association (TTB). His published work covers topics such as anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, treatment options for chronic plantar fasciitis, osteochondral autograft transplantation of the talus and periprosthetic joint infection.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erden’s clinical work centers on joint disorders and injuries in adults and children. In the field of joint replacement, he performs hip and knee replacement surgery, including robotic surgery of the knee and hip. He treats degenerative joint conditions such as osteoarthritis, where treatment planning depends on the affected joint, the stage of the condition and the patient’s overall situation.

A further focus is sports medicine and sports traumatology, including knee and joint injuries such as anterior cruciate ligament tears and meniscus tears. He also practices shoulder and elbow surgery, with elbow surgery among his areas of expertise, as well as foot and ankle surgery. In pediatric orthopedics, he assesses and treats orthopedic conditions in children, and his expertise also includes limb lengthening. The suitability of any procedure is determined individually after clinical assessment and review of imaging.

How Dr. Erden works with international patients

Dr. Erden consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
