Prof. Dr. Türkan Öztürk Topcu

Prof. Dr. Türkan Öztürk Topcu is a medical oncologist with more than 22 years in medicine. Her work centers on the diagnosis and systemic treatment planning of solid tumors, and her clinical interests include breast, gastrointestinal, thoracic, genitourinary and gynecological cancers. She graduated from Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in 2004, completed Internal Medicine training at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 2010, and completed Medical Oncology training at Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine in 2015. She holds the Turkish Medical Oncology Proficiency Certificate (2014), the European Oncology Proficiency Certificate of the ESMO Board (2016) and a United Kingdom Medical Oncology Certificate (2018).

Her career includes research appointments at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States (2008–2009), Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Canada (2017) and Moffit Cancer Center in the United States (2021–2022). In İstanbul she worked in Medical Oncology at İstanbul Göztepe Training and Research Hospital (2016–2018) and Medicana Ataşehir Hospital (2022–2024), and served as Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Biruni University Hospital (2024–2025). Since 2025 she has seen patients in the Medical Oncology Department at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital and Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital in İstanbul. She is a member of the Turkish Medical Oncology Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the Türk Akciğer Kanseri Association and the Turkish Oncology Group.

Clinical focus

Dr. Topcu’s areas of expertise cover a range of gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer and small intestine cancer. In these conditions her role as a medical oncologist involves reviewing the diagnosis and staging information and planning systemic treatment, in coordination with other specialties where the individual case requires it.

She also sees patients with genitourinary cancers, including prostate cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, penile cancer and adrenal gland cancer, as well as endometrial cancer and bone tumors. Treatment recommendations depend on the tumor type, stage and the patient’s general health, and are discussed with each patient on an individual basis.

How Dr. Topcu works with international patients

Dr. Topcu consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before traveling or as part of follow-up.
