Prof. Ufuk Aydınlı, MD

Prof. Ufuk Aydınlı, MD is a specialist in orthopedic surgery and traumatology working in the Orthopedics & Joint Center at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital, where he has practiced since 2023. He has more than 46 years in medicine, and his clinical work is concentrated on complex spine surgery, including deformity correction and the surgical treatment of tumors involving the spine and pelvis. He first joined Acibadem Health Group in 2006.

Dr. Aydınlı graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 1980 and completed his specialty training in orthopedics and traumatology at the same faculty in 1984. Between 1976 and 1978 he spent time at the University of Virginia School of Medicine as a research assistant and clinical student. After early posts at Samsun Military Hospital and Kesan State Hospital, he joined the orthopedics and traumatology department of Uludag University Faculty of Medicine in 1988, advancing to associate professor in 1993 and to professor in 1998, a position he held until 2010. In 1991–1992 he worked at Minnesota Spine Center USA. His professional roles include Chairperson of AOSpine Turkey (2007–2010), AO International Trustee (2015–2019), membership of the AOSpine International Education Committee and International Core Curriculum Committee (2010–2013), and Education Advisor for AOSpine Europe since 2013. He has been a member of the Turkish Spine Surgery Society since 1991, serving as board member, President of the Educational Committee and President, and was a member of the Scoliosis Research Society and the Spine Society of Europe from 1996 to 2008. He was President of the Spine Expert Group in 2010.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aydınlı’s areas of expertise center on the surgical management of spinal deformity and spinal and pelvic tumors. In deformity surgery, his listed procedures include spinal osteotomy, posterior vertebral column resection and posterior apical short-segment correction for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. He also performs reconstructive spinal procedures such as corpectomy with titanium mesh cage placement, interbody fusion, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion and posterior cervical screw placement.

A second focus is oncologic surgery of the spine and pelvis, including the treatment of malignant sacrum tumors, type-1 hemipelvectomy and iliosacral fixation. His published work, dated between 2012 and 2023, addresses these same areas: biomechanical and experimental studies of titanium mesh cage placement and interbody fusion, surgical modification of posterior vertebral column resection, segmental mobility after posterior apical short-segment scoliosis correction, mid-term clinical outcomes of surgically treated malignant sacrum tumors, blood loss in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, the neurologic deficit risk of spinal osteotomies, simulation training for posterior cervical screw placement, and iliosacral fixation after type-1 hemipelvectomy.
