Uğur Oğul, MD

Uğur Oğul, MD is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, where he works in the Neurosurgery unit. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Oğul’s practice concerns tumors of the central nervous system. He evaluates and treats brain tumors in adults and also provides brain tumor treatment in children. He manages spinal and spinal cord tumors, and he treats pituitary disorders, which form his subspecialty area. His work with hydrocephalus addresses the abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Dr. Oğul is also involved in functional neurosurgery through deep brain stimulation, a procedure that uses implanted electrodes to modulate activity in targeted areas of the brain.

Spinal conditions make up the other major component of his practice. Dr. Oğul evaluates patients with low-back pain and with neck and back pain, including symptoms related to disc herniation. He treats lumbar spinal stenosis and cervical spinal stenosis, conditions in which narrowing of the spinal canal can place pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots. Alongside surgical options, he performs spinal injections, which may be considered for certain patients as part of a broader pain management plan. Treatment recommendations depend on the individual findings, the results of imaging, and the patient’s overall health, and not every patient with these conditions will require surgery.

How Dr. Oğul works with international patients

Dr. Oğul consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options. For international patients who are not yet able to travel, a video consultation is available as an initial step in the evaluation and treatment planning process.
