Assoc. Prof. Adnan Batman, MD

Assoc. Prof. Adnan Batman, MD is an endocrinology specialist in the Endocrinology & Metabolism unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, with more than 17 years in medicine. He graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 2010, after completing his internship there in 2009–2010. He then trained in internal medicine at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, where he was a resident from 2011 to 2015, and completed his training in endocrinology and metabolic diseases at İstanbul Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases in 2019. In the same year he obtained the European Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (EBEEDM) Board Certificate. He also holds a doctorate (PhD) in Molecular Medicine.

Dr. Batman began his career as a family physician at Albayrak Köyü Health Center and Ortanca Köyü Family Health Center in Van (2010–2011). He worked as a specialist in the Department of Internal Medicine at Muş State Hospital (2015–2016) and, from 2016 to 2020, in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at Health Sciences University, Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, İstanbul. In 2020 he worked in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Aksaray University, and from 2021 to 2025 in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Koç University Hospital, holding the title of Associate Professor from 2023. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders and Endocrinology & Metabolism International Journal. Within the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association he has been Representative of the Young Endocrinology Working Group, Chair of the Early Career Endocrinologists Group, Vice Chair of the Mentorship Program and Endocast Representative (Podcast). He is a member of The Endocrine Society, the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association (TEMD), the Turkish Internal Medicine Association, the Turkish Medical Association, the European Endocrinology Association (ESE) and the Avrupa Genç Endokrinologlar Association (EYES).

Clinical focus

Dr. Batman’s subspecialty areas are thyroid diseases and their treatment, the treatment of pituitary diseases, and menopause. In the thyroid field he evaluates and manages thyroid diseases including thyroid nodules, goiter, Hashimoto’s disease and thyroid cancer. He also sees patients with autoimmune diseases and with rare endocrine conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and endocrine pancreatic tumors, as well as adrenal conditions.

A further part of his practice concerns metabolic conditions: obesity and morbid obesity, insulin resistance, prediabetes and diabetes management, including the use of artificial pancreas systems. His approach considers the patient’s symptoms, diagnostic findings and individual health needs when discussing treatment options.

How Dr. Batman works with international patients

Dr. Batman consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before the visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, MRI or CT reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges the appointment and hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before or instead of traveling.
