Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özveren

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özveren is a medical oncologist in the Medical Oncology Department at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir. He has more than 18 years of experience in medicine and has worked as a medical oncology specialist since completing his subspecialty training in 2017. His clinical practice covers a broad range of solid tumors, including cancers of the breast, lung and chest, digestive system, liver, pancreas, prostate, ovaries, uterus, and head and neck.

Dr. Özveren graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2008. He began his career as a general practitioner at Amasya Community Health Center (2008–2009) and then trained in internal medicine as a resident at İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital from 2009 to 2013. After a year in internal medicine at Van Çaldıran State Hospital (2013–2014), he returned to Ege University Faculty of Medicine as an oncology subspecialty assistant and completed his medical oncology training there in 2017. From 2017 to 2019 he served as a medical oncology specialist at Giresun University Giresun Prof. Dr. A. İlhan Özdemir Training and Research Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023.

Clinical focus

Dr. Özveren’s areas of expertise span many of the common solid tumors. In thoracic oncology he treats lung cancer and other thoracic cancers. His gastrointestinal work includes gastric cancer, colorectal cancer (cancers of the colon and rectum), liver cancer and pancreatic cancer. He also manages breast cancer and prostate cancer, the gynecologic cancers ovarian cancer and uterine cancer, as well as head and neck cancers.

Medical oncology is concerned with the systemic (drug-based) treatment of cancer. The approach that is appropriate for an individual patient depends on the type and stage of the tumor, the pathology findings, any previous treatment and the patient’s general health. Treatment decisions are therefore made only after a review of the diagnosis, pathology and imaging, and the options and their implications are discussed with the patient.

How Dr. Özveren works with international patients

Dr. Özveren consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Özveren before traveling or after returning home.
