Prof. Ahmet Tayyar, MD

Prof. Ahmet Tayyar, MD is a gynecology and obstetrics specialist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Gynecology & Obstetrics unit. His clinical focus is perinatology and high-risk pregnancies. He has more than 21 years in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Perinatology Association.

Dr. Tayyar graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2011. He then worked at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Niğde State Hospital from 2011 to 2013. From 2013 to 2016 he was at King`s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Department of Obstetrics, Harris Birthright Research Center For Fetal Medicine – Fetal Medicine Research Institute, London, England, where he completed his training as a perinatology subspecialist in 2016. Between 2016 and 2018 he worked in the Perinatology Clinic of İstanbul Health Sciences University Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital. In 2018 he became an Associate Professor at İstanbul Medipol University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and from 2018 to 2020 he worked in the Perinatology Clinic of Medipol Mega University Hospital. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2020. His published research includes studies on screening for preeclampsia using mean arterial pressure and uterine artery pulsatility index, maternal serum markers in preeclampsia and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, fetal cardiac function in congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and outcomes of intrauterine transfusion for fetal anemia.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tayyar follows women through pregnancy, with particular attention to pregnancies considered high risk. His work includes detailed ultrasound during pregnancy, amniocentesis, and ongoing pregnancy monitoring. He manages maternal conditions such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, and treats placental disorders including placenta previa and placenta accreta.

His practice also covers fetal treatment and surgery for selected fetal conditions. As part of delivery planning, he discusses the options that may be appropriate for each patient, including epidural delivery, cesarean delivery, and water birth. Which approach is suitable depends on the course of the individual pregnancy and is decided together with the patient after review of the clinical findings.

How Dr. Tayyar works with international patients

Dr. Tayyar consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options.
