Ali Koç, MD

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Koç’s practice is devoted to degenerative joint disease. He evaluates and treats osteoarthritis and other joint diseases, as well as osteoporosis, and he performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery for patients whose joint damage is no longer adequately managed with conservative measures. Meniscus tears of the knee also fall within his area of expertise. In the upper limb, he carries out shoulder surgery and elbow surgery for conditions affecting these joints.

Dr. Koç also works in spasticity surgery, including spasticity in children, where orthopedic procedures may be considered to address muscle tightness, joint contractures and related problems with posture and mobility. His work further includes deformity surgery and the management of trauma, ranging from acute injuries of bones and joints to their later consequences. Treatment recommendations are made after a review of the individual patient’s history, examination findings and imaging, and the choice between conservative and surgical options depends on the specific condition, its severity and the patient’s overall health and goals.

How Dr. Koç works with international patients

Dr. Koç consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Koç remotely before deciding whether to travel.
