Prof. Ali Rıza Kural, MD

Prof. Ali Rıza Kural, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. His subspecialty areas are urinary incontinence and bladder health, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, and robotic surgery. He has more than 52 years in medicine and has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2002.

Dr. Kural graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and completed his urology training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1979. He then served as a urology specialist at Erzincan Military Hospital (1979–1980). From 1981 to 2008 he was a member of the İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology, and in 1985–1986 he was an Honorary Registrar at İskoçya Edinburgh University Western General Hospital. He was Head of the Urology Department at International Hospital (1992–1997) and at Florence Nightingale Hospitals (1997–2010). He is a member of the European Robotic Surgery Association, the American Urology Association, the Endourological Society, the Endoüroloji Association, the Turkish Urology Association and the European Urology Association. His published work includes papers on laparoscopic renal surgery, laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy, flexible ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy and bladder cancer, appearing in journals such as J Endourol, Urol Int, Cancer Invest and the Turkish Journal of Urology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Kural evaluates and treats conditions affecting the prostate, bladder, kidneys and male reproductive system. His areas of expertise include urinary incontinence, bladder health and diseases, and the diagnosis and treatment of prostate disease. He also manages hematuria (blood in the urine) and kidney stones; his publications include work on percutaneous nephrolithotomy and flexible ureteroscopy for upper urinary tract conditions.

A significant part of his practice concerns urological cancers, including prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer and penile cancer. He performs robotic urologic surgery and has published on laparoscopic radical and partial nephrectomy and on radical retropubic prostatectomy. The suitability of any surgical or non-surgical approach is assessed individually after review of the patient’s history, imaging and pathology.

How Dr. Kural works with international patients

Dr. Kural consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
