Prof. Alp Yentür, MD

Prof. Alp Yentür, MD is an anesthesiologist whose clinical work centers on the treatment of pain (algology). He practices in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Atakent Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022 after working from 1998 to 2022 at Manisa Celal Bayar University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation, Division of Algology, where he progressed from specialist physician through assistant associate professor and associate professor to professor. His career in medicine spans more than 47 years.

Dr. Yentür graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1985 and worked as a general practitioner at Elazığ, Baskil Health Center from 1985 to 1987. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and reanimation at Şişli Etfal Hospital between 1987 and 1992 and remained there as chief assistant until 1996, a period that also included his military service at Konya 200 Yataklı Hava Hospital. His pain-medicine training includes a Diplome Universitaire algology program in 1991 at Pierre and Marie Curie University’s Hôpital Saint-Antoine Pain Clinic in Paris, algology clinic rotations at İstanbul Faculty of Medicine (1992) and Ege University Faculty of Medicine (2004), and acupuncture and moxibustion training in 1993 at Hunan College of Traditional Medicine in Changsha, People’s Republic of China, supported by a Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health and UNDP scholarship program. He obtained Medical Specialization Board certification in Algology in 2011. Between 1996 and 1998 he worked as a private pain clinic physician in İzmir. He has authored publications on topics such as lumbar sympathetic block, interventional methods in chronic low back pain, quantitative sensory testing in lumbar disc herniation, pudendal nerve neuropathy, and medical treatment of cancer pain. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), The European Pain Federation (EFIC), the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (ESRA), the Turkish Algology Association and the Turkish Association of Anesthesiology and Reanimation (TARD), among other professional bodies.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yentür focuses on the non-surgical treatment of acute and chronic pain. He assesses and treats low back pain, neck pain and upper back pain, cancer pain, neuropathic pain and peripheral neuropathy. Depending on the diagnosis and the patient’s overall condition, treatment may involve joint injections, radiofrequency treatment, ozone therapy or spinal cord stimulation.

Because pain conditions differ widely in cause and course, the choice of approach is made after a careful review of the individual case, and not every method is suitable for every patient. Treatment planning is discussed with the patient and adjusted to the clinical findings.

How Dr. Yentür works with international patients

Dr. Yentür consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before traveling.
