Prof. Dr. Atakan Yeşil

Prof. Dr. Atakan Yeşil is an Internal Medicine specialist with training in gastroenterology who sees patients at Acibadem Kartal Hospital and Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 24 years in medicine, and his work centers on digestive system disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, celiac disease, small bowel diseases, and conditions of the liver, pancreas and biliary tract.

Dr. Yeşil graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2002. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 2009 and his Gastroenterology training at the same institution in 2012. Between 2003 and 2008 he worked in the Internal Medicine Department of Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital, and from 2009 to 2014 in its Gastroenterology Department. From 2014 to 2018 he was part of the gastroenterology department of Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine. In 2025 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Hepatology Society, EASL, the Obesity Society and AASLD.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yeşil evaluates and manages a range of gastrointestinal conditions. His areas of expertise include celiac disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease treatment more broadly. He also sees patients with small bowel diseases, SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), and other digestive system disorders such as reflux, gastritis and dyspepsia. Liver, pancreas and biliary tract diseases form a further part of his clinical work.

On the procedural side, his practice includes gastroscopy and colonoscopy, which are used to examine the upper and lower digestive tract and to obtain tissue samples when needed. He also performs the gastric balloon procedure. Whether a particular examination or procedure is appropriate is decided individually after a review of the patient’s history, symptoms and existing test results.

How Dr. Yeşil works with international patients

Dr. Yeşil speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who need them. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as endoscopy and colonoscopy reports, laboratory and pathology results, ultrasound, CT or MRI reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Yeşil before deciding whether to travel.
