Prof. Dr. Bülent Orhan

Prof. Dr. Bülent Orhan is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa, where he works in the Medical Oncology Department. He has more than 37 years in medicine and cares for adult patients with solid tumors, including cancers of the thyroid, stomach, pancreas, cervix, ovaries, breast, prostate, colon and rectum, as well as bone tumors.

Dr. Orhan graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 and his specialty training in Medical Oncology at the same faculty in 1999. In 2005 he became an Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine. His professional experience includes the GATA Haydarpaşa Department of Hematology-Oncology (1999–2000) and Ali Osman Sönmez Oncology Hospital (2001–2007); he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2006. He is a member of the Medical Oncology Association, Türk Kanserle Savaş Vakfı Bursa Şubesi, the Bursa Gastroenterology Association, the Europan Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Medical Oncology (ASCO), and holds a board membership of the Bursa Breast Diseases Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Orhan’s clinical work centers on the medical oncology assessment and care planning of patients with solid tumors. His areas of expertise include breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and gastric cancer, as well as pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer. In gynecologic oncology he sees patients with cervical cancer and ovarian cancer, and his practice also covers bone tumors.

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Orhan evaluates each patient’s diagnosis, stage and previous treatment history and discusses the systemic treatment options that may be appropriate for the individual case. Where a patient’s situation calls for input from other disciplines, his assessment forms part of the wider care planning process. Recommendations depend on the individual clinical picture and are made only after the relevant reports and imaging have been reviewed.

How Dr. Orhan works with international patients

Dr. Orhan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
