Doğaç Çağlar Gürbüz, MD

Doğaç Çağlar Gürbüz, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem Taksim Hospital in İstanbul. He has more than 12 years of experience in medicine, and his practice covers both general cardiology and catheter-based procedures, including angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention and transcatheter aortic valve implantation.

Dr. Gürbüz graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 2014. He completed his compulsory service as a general practitioner at Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Children’s Diseases Hospital in Gaziantep (2014–2015) before undertaking specialty training in the Department of Cardiology at İzmir Katip Çelebi University (2015–2019), receiving his cardiology qualification from İzmir Katip Çelebi University Faculty of Medicine in 2019. From 2019 to 2021 he carried out his specialty compulsory service at Afyonkarahisar State Hospital, where he held clinical chief responsibility. He then worked as a cardiology specialist at Bayrampaşa Kolan Hospital (2021–2022) and at Koç University Hospital Department of Cardiology (2022–2023), while also serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Cardiology at İstanbul Health and Technology University. In 2023–2024 he was a cardiology specialist in clinical management at Eskişehir Private Gürlife Hospital, and in 2024 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology, the Turkish Cardiology Association and the Kardiyovasküler Akademi Association, and has co-authored publications on acute heart failure, coronary artery calcium scoring, vascular closure during percutaneous coronary intervention and cardiac electronic device placement.

Clinical focus

Dr. Gürbüz assesses and manages a range of heart conditions, including heart failure, heart valve disease, arrhythmias and hypertension. He also provides ongoing care for patients with pacemakers. In coronary artery disease, his work includes diagnostic angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, including procedures for chronic total occlusion, in which a coronary artery is completely blocked.

For selected patients with aortic valve disease who are being considered for a catheter-based approach, he performs transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Whether a medical, catheter-based or other approach is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s findings and is decided after evaluation of the history, examination and imaging.

How Dr. Gürbüz works with international patients

Dr. Gürbüz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example CT, MRI or ultrasound (echocardiography) reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
