Prof. Emel Öztürk Durmaz, MD

Prof. Emel Öztürk Durmaz, MD is a dermatologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in Istanbul, where she works in the Dermatology unit. Dr. Durmaz graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1993 and completed her specialty training in Dermatology and Venereal Diseases at the same faculty in 1998. She then joined Kırıkkale University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology, where she worked from 1998 to 2004 as Assistant Associate Professor and, after receiving the title of Associate Professor in 2004, until 2008. In 2003–2004 she was a Research Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, U.S.A. In 2008 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services and, in 2008–2009, worked at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology. She received the title of Professor at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine in 2010. She is a member of the Turkish Dermatology Association, the Turkish Dermatology and Venereology Association, the Ankara Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Association and the Dermatoimmünoloji Association. Her published work includes case reports and clinical observations in peer-reviewed dermatology journals on topics such as confluent and reticulated papillomatosis, eruptive vellus hair cysts and cheilitis glandularis superimposed on oral lichen planus.

Clinical focus

Dr. Durmaz evaluates and treats a range of chronic and inflammatory skin conditions. Her areas of expertise include psoriasis, urticaria and dermatomyositis, a condition in which skin findings may be accompanied by muscle involvement and which often requires coordinated follow-up. She also sees patients with acne, hair loss and genital herpes, and offers treatment for excessive sweating, including botulinum toxin treatment where appropriate.

Her procedural work includes cryotherapy, fractional laser treatment and the assessment and management of dermoid cysts. Treatment choices are made after clinical examination and, where needed, further testing, and are discussed with the patient in light of the diagnosis, the extent of the condition and previous treatments.
