Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Erdal

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Erdal is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 2008 and completed his specialty training in cardiology at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2015. He has more than 18 years of experience in medicine and holds the academic title of Associate Professor of Cardiology.

Dr. Erdal began his career as a Medical Lieutenant in 2008–2009 and served as a General Practitioner with the Cyprus 14th Armored Brigade in Cyprus from 2009 to 2011. After completing his cardiology training, he worked as a Cardiology Specialist at Diyarbakır Military Hospital – Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital in Diyarbakır from 2015 to 2017 and at Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health – Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Hospital in Bolu from 2017 to 2021. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022. From 2022 to 2024 he was Associate Professor of Cardiology and Training Officer at Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health – Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital in İstanbul, and in 2024 he served as Associate Professor of Cardiology at Private Edremit Körfez Hospital in Balıkesir.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erdal’s clinical work centers on coronary artery disease and its related conditions, including atherosclerosis, angina and myocardial infarction. His diagnostic and interventional practice includes coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention, as well as the assessment and treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO), in which a coronary artery is completely blocked. The choice between medical therapy and an interventional approach depends on the individual patient’s findings and overall clinical picture.

In structural heart disease, his areas of expertise include transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and mitral valve regurgitation. He also evaluates and manages patients with heart failure and performs ablation for rhythm-related conditions. Where appropriate, he discusses interventional and medical treatment options with patients so that decisions can be made on the basis of their diagnostic results and medical history.

How Dr. Erdal works with international patients

Dr. Erdal consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as echocardiography, CT or MRI reports, angiography records, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Erdal before deciding whether to travel for further evaluation or treatment.
