Assoc. Prof. Emre Karabay, MD

Assoc. Prof. Emre Karabay, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. Dr. Karabay graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2010 and completed his urology training at İstanbul Training and Research Hospital in 2016. He then worked as a urology specialist at Yüksekova State Hospital from 2016 to 2017 and at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital from 2017 to 2022, where he also served as an associate professor and training officer in urology between 2021 and 2022. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022. He is a member of the Turkish Urology Association, the Urological Surgery Association, the Üroonkoloji Association, the Endoüroloji Association and the European Association of Urology. His published work includes studies on erectile dysfunction and sexual function, renal function after partial nephrectomy, bladder cancer, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, retrograde intrarenal surgery and laparoscopic pyeloplasty.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Karabay’s practice is andrology and male reproductive health, including the assessment and management of male infertility. He also evaluates and treats patients with prostate diseases, from benign prostate conditions to prostate cancer, and sees patients with symptoms related to bladder health, including urinary incontinence.

In urologic oncology, his work covers tumors of the prostate, bladder and kidney, including bladder cancer. He performs laparoscopic and robotic surgery and treats kidney stones with minimally invasive stone surgery. The choice between observation, medication, endoscopic treatment or surgery depends on the individual patient’s findings, and each option is discussed with the patient after the diagnostic work-up is complete.

How Dr. Karabay works with international patients

Dr. Karabay speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
