Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esma Kobak Tur

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esma Kobak Tur is a neurologist at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Neurology unit. Her clinical work covers headache and migraine treatment, stroke treatment and prevention, movement disorders, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, and sleep disorders. She has more than 16 years in medicine and is a member of the Turkish Neurology Association, the Global Migraine and Pain Association, the Turkey Parkinson’s Disease Association, the International Association Parkinsonism and Related Disorders, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society, the Turkish Neurology Association Movement Disorders Working Group and the Türkiye Alzheimer Association Kadıköy Şubesi, and she serves on the Neurodegenerative Diseases Association Board of Directors.

Dr. Tur graduated from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 2010 and completed her compulsory service as a general practitioner at Çaybaşı 112 Emergency Health Stations Center, Ordu (2010–2011). From 2011 to 2016 she was a research assistant doctor at the Health Sciences University Erenköy Training and Research Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases Department of Neurology, İstanbul, completing her neurology training in 2016. She then worked as a specialist physician at Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital (2016–2017), followed by seven years as a neurology specialist physician at Health Sciences University, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital, İstanbul (2017–2024), where she became an associate professor doctor in 2024. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025. Her published research includes studies on dementia risk, mild cognitive impairment, sleep quality and cholesterol levels in Parkinson’s disease, restless legs syndrome, and acute stroke in young patients positive for COVID-19, published in journals including Neurological Sciences, Neurological Research and Acta Neurologica Belgica.

Clinical focus

A substantial part of Dr. Tur’s practice is headache care, including migraine treatment with advanced migraine protocols, biologic agents for migraine and nerve blocks. She also assesses and treats patients after stroke and plans preventive treatment to reduce the risk of further events.

In movement disorders she manages Parkinson’s disease and related conditions, including the evaluation of patients for brain pacemaker therapy. Her work in cognitive neurology covers dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as neurological changes associated with aging. She also sees patients with sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea. Treatment decisions are made after a clinical evaluation, and not every option is suitable for every patient.

How Dr. Tur works with international patients

Dr. Tur consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
