Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Gülüm’s work involves surgical procedures in the mouth and jaw. These include routine tooth extraction and the removal of impacted teeth, which may be considered when a tooth has not erupted normally and is causing symptoms or affecting neighboring teeth. She also performs cyst surgery in the jaw. For patients who wish to replace missing teeth, she places dental implants; where the available bone is insufficient, she may carry out bone grafting or a sinus lift in the upper jaw to prepare the site before implant placement. Whether these procedures are appropriate depends on the individual patient’s oral health, bone volume and general medical condition, which are assessed during a clinical examination and a review of imaging.

Dr. Gülüm also manages temporomandibular joint disorders and trismus, a restriction in opening the mouth. For patients with teeth grinding, her treatment options include Botox applications and night guards. The choice of approach is discussed with each patient after assessment, and not every option is suitable for every patient.

How Dr. Gülüm works with international patients

Dr. Gülüm consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as X-ray and CT reports, previous treatment records, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
