Dr. Figen Akın

Dr. Figen Akın is a dermatologist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Dermatology unit. Her clinical practice covers medical dermatology in adults and children, including acne, pigmentation disorders, psoriasis, eczema (atopic dermatitis), hair loss, excessive sweating, sexually transmitted diseases and childhood urticaria. She also performs dermatological procedures such as cryotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Dr. Akın has more than 36 years of experience in medicine and speaks Turkish and English.

Dr. Akın graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1990. She began her career as a general practitioner, working at Kocaeli SSK Hospital from 1990 to 1992 and at Aydın SSK Hospital from 1992 to 2001. From 2001 to 2005 she was a resident at the Department of Dermatology, Ege University Faculty of Medicine, completing her specialty training at the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases in 2005. She then held dermatology specialist positions at Private Koşuyolu Medipol Hospital (2005–2007), Private Anadolu Sağlık Gebze Hospital (2007–2019), Ulus Private LİV Hospital (2019–2021) and Medicana International Hospital (2021), before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. She is a member of the TTB Istanbul Medical Chamber, the Turkish Dermatology Association, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the Turkish Aesthetic and Cosmetic Association.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Akın’s work involves common inflammatory and chronic skin conditions. She evaluates and treats acne, psoriasis and eczema (atopic dermatitis), conditions that often require ongoing follow-up and adjustment of treatment over time. She also sees children with urticaria, assesses pigmentation concerns, and manages sexually transmitted diseases within the scope of dermatology and venereology. Excessive sweating and hair loss are further areas of her practice, where assessment focuses on identifying possible underlying causes before discussing treatment options.

In addition to medical management, Dr. Akın offers procedural treatments where they are clinically indicated. These include cryotherapy, a technique that uses controlled cold to treat certain skin lesions, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which she uses in selected cases. How Dr. Akın works with international patients

Dr. Akın consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
