Prof. Güngör Boztaş, MD

Prof. Güngör Boztaş, MD is a gastroenterologist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Gastroenterology unit. With more than 46 years in medicine, he cares for adults with digestive system disorders, from common complaints such as reflux, gastritis and dyspepsia to inflammatory bowel diseases, small intestine diseases and stomach cancer. Dr. Boztaş graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1980 and completed his Internal Medicine training there in 1985. He was appointed Associate Professor in 1990 and Professor in 1996, and completed his Gastroenterology training at the same faculty in 2001. His early career included positions at SSK Gemlik Dispanseri (1980), the Internal Medicine Department of İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine (1981–1985) and Balıkesir Askeri Hospital (1988–1989). He worked in the Department of Gastroenterohepatology at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine from 1985 to 1988 and again from 1989 to 2011, and has been with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2007. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Gastroenterology Association, the Turkish Liver Research Association, the İstanbul Medical Chamber, the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Association and the İstanbul University Hepatobiliary System Diseases Practice and Research Center. His published work includes studies on Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the extraintestinal manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease, duodenal and gastric ulcers, pneumatic balloon dilatation in achalasia, and hepatitis B vaccination response in celiac disease.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Boztaş’s practice involves endoscopic procedures. He performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy to examine the esophagus, stomach and large bowel, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for conditions of the bile ducts and pancreas. These examinations are used both to establish a diagnosis and, where appropriate, to treat findings during the same session.

He also evaluates and manages a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel diseases, small intestine diseases, gastroenteritis, reflux, gastritis and dyspepsia. Patients with suspected or confirmed stomach cancer may see him for endoscopic assessment as part of their wider evaluation. The choice of investigation and treatment depends on the individual patient’s symptoms, history and prior findings.

How Dr. Boztaş works with international patients

Dr. Boztaş consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
