Assoc. Prof. Gürbüz Görümlü, MD

Assoc. Prof. Gürbüz Görümlü, MD is a medical oncologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir), where he works in the Medical Oncology Department. He has more than 26 years in medicine and provides medical oncology evaluation and care for a range of solid tumors, including cancers of the breast, lung, gastrointestinal tract, gynecologic organs and bladder. His work centers on assessing each patient’s diagnosis and cancer type and discussing the medical oncology options that are relevant to that individual situation.

Dr. Görümlü graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. He completed his Internal Medicine training at Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and went on to complete Medical Oncology training at the same faculty in 2010. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2023, practicing in İzmir.

Clinical focus

Dr. Görümlü’s clinical interests cover several groups of solid tumors. In gastrointestinal oncology, he evaluates and cares for patients with pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer and colorectal cancer, including colon cancer and rectal cancer, as well as peritoneal cancer. In gynecologic oncology, his areas of expertise include ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer. He also sees patients with breast cancer and bladder cancer.

Thoracic malignancies form a further part of his practice, in particular lung cancer and other thoracic cancers. Across these tumor types, his role as a medical oncologist is to review the available pathology, imaging and previous treatments, to consider the stage of disease and the patient’s overall condition, and to explain the medical oncology options in a way that patients and their families can understand. Where appropriate, care is planned in coordination with the other specialties involved in a patient’s treatment.

How Dr. Görümlü works with international patients

Dr. Görümlü consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case with Dr. Görümlü before deciding whether to travel, or who need a follow-up conversation after returning home.
