Hülya Deveci, MD

Hülya Deveci, MD is an ophthalmologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital in İzmir, where she works in the Ophthalmology unit. With more than 27 years in medicine, she cares for both adult and paediatric patients with a range of eye conditions. Dr. Deveci graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and completed her specialty training at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology in 2003. She then worked as an ophthalmology specialist at Manisa State Hospital from 2003 to 2011, followed by positions at Grandmedical University from 2011 to 2015 and Özel Park Medical Center from 2015 to 2018. She joined Acıbadem Kent Hospital in 2018, where she continues to practise, and in 2023 she took up a role with Acıbadem Healthcare Services.

Clinical focus

A significant part of Dr. Deveci’s work involves conditions that affect vision in adults. She sees patients with myopia and with cataract, and her practice includes smart lens applications, in which an intraocular lens is considered as part of the treatment plan. She also evaluates and manages retinal diseases, including macular degeneration. The suitability of any procedure depends on the individual examination findings, and the options are discussed with each patient on that basis.

Dr. Deveci also treats paediatric eye conditions. These include strabismus, in which the eyes are not aligned, and amblyopia, sometimes referred to as lazy eye. She additionally assesses eyelid drooping in patients of different ages. Because children’s visual development and adult eye conditions require different approaches, her assessment takes into account the age of the patient, the history and the clinical findings before any treatment is recommended.

How Dr. Deveci works with international patients

Dr. Deveci speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as previous eye examination records, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation with Dr. Deveci before deciding whether to travel, although a full ophthalmological assessment generally requires an in-person examination.
